A senior Trinamool Congress leader was shot dead at Nandigram on Tuesday evening. Nishikanta Mondal, the pradhan of the Sonachura gram panchayat, was shot near his home while returning from a party meeting.

He was riding a motorcycle when he was shot by unidentified miscreants around 7.30 pm. He was rushed to hospital but was declared brought dead. The Trinamool has called a 12-hour bandh in Nandigram on Wednesday.
