Tremors felt in Maharashtra

Tremors have been felt around the Koyna Dam, one of the biggest dams in Maharashtra.

Tremors were also felt in Kolhapur and Satara districts while minor shocks were felt in northern Mumbai suburbs.

The Met Department has confirmed that the tremors were felt at 6.34 pm.

PTI adds:

The earthquake was of moderate intensity of 4.5 on the richer scale.

The quake lasted for 15 seconds and was experienced in Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri, Mumbai and Pune.

There were no immediate reports of any damage to life or property due to the quake, sources said. Panic-stricken people in Satara came out of the streets in pitch dark due to load-shedding in the area.

In Mumbai, a number of people felt the mild tremor, and the police control room received several calls, police said.

Tremor felt at 6.34 pm. Panic stricken people in Satara came ut in pitch dark..... load shedding My comment : Since when does it become "pitch dark" at 6.34 pm - anywere in India ? particularly in Satara ? Krishnan
