This Diwali celebrate the joy of giving
NDTV Correspondent, Sunday October 11, 2009, Delhi

In a metropolitan city like Delhi, Diwali bazaars are sprouting in every colony. But some bazaars embody a greater spirit of giving. Every year, Arpana, a charitable organisation literally lights up lives.

The organisation has provided a journey of hope in the recent years. Slums were converted into colonies, street children with education and medical facilities for those who don't have the means to get treatment.

The organisation hopes to do much more in the coming year. Most of the things on display has been made by people trained by Arpana and the money it collects helps in funding future projects.

Actor, Sushma Seth has been a volunteer for a decade now. "We do a play every year and we have some 70 children of all ages participating."

And there is no shortage of volunteers. This year, Dr Rahul Gupta, his wife and two sons opened up their home for the sale. They also give free treatment at Arpana. "We all want to help, we just don't know how to. We have made a roster, some doctors come once a week, some come in twice," he says.

So while shopping is a must for the big festival, organisations like Arpana are hoping you will stop by, shop, and brighten up someone's life.

Deepavali ( Diwali) is really a function which the entire world has to celebrate."Narakasura" is the personification of power, arrogant, cruelty and Darkness with strength.Through o9ut the ages there were Narakasuras. Lord Vishnu is the Destiny that manifests from time to time( Sambahavami Yuge Yuge) to conquer the evil and save the the good.To destroy the Darkness and to bring Light. The Sudharshana Chakra is the wheel of Time the most powerful.Actually Narakasura was the son of Bhudevi ( The Goddess of Earth) through lord Vishnu during his Varahavathara. But he was killed in Krishanavathara.Keeping the mythological angle aside the philosophical aspect is that Evil is a continuous process that takes continuously births and deaths. No ending for this all powerful Wheel of Time. There is report that Deepavali is being celebrated in White House and Barrack Obama is participating in the celebrations which isa heart thrilling matter for all Indians.
