Telangana storm: What will Congress do?
NDTV Correspondent, Thursday December 17, 2009, Hyderabad

For a week, Telangana has dominated the Lok Sabha agenda; the crisis evident from the fact that the ruling party's own MPs are split right down the middle over a new Telangana state.

On Thursday, Jagan Mohan Reddy, the son for former chief minister YSR Reddy, stood up for a united Andhra, trying to be a rallying point for Congress MPs who don't want Andhra bifurcated.

Congress MPs from Telangana, however, shouted "Jai Telangana" over and over.

After lunch, Lok Sabha was adjourned because of the chaos. And a delegation of Congress MPs and MLAs from Coastal Andhra and Rayalseema trooped in to meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

"He advised us to let things cool down. This is an emotional issue. There has to be consensus," said MP Subirami Reddy, who was part of that meeting.

That consensus remains elusive. By late afternoon, the other camp of pro-Telangana MPs called on the Home Minister to argue for a new state. "The UPA government has given a commitment and Madam Sonia Gandhi will fulfill our dream," said S Satyanarayana, a Congress MP from Hyderabad .

Through the meetings and the lobbying, the Congress high command has maintained a studied silence. Sources say that in principle, the party still stands for a separate Telangana, but it wants to go slow on the implementation..

The issue has not only drawn sharp reactions in Andhra but added fuel to the demand for other small states - Vidharbha in Maharashtra; Gorkhaland in West Bengal; and Harit Pradesh and Bundelkhand in UP all cite the Telangana example in protests that are louder than ever before.

Also worrying for the Congress: its allies in the UPA government are unhappy that the Telangana decision was taken without consulting them.

How does one expect a problem which has been there for 50 years can be solved by just few consultations? Is it political immaturity or cunningness of some sections? Lok at hyderabd with central establlishments like IIT, BITS, IBS, Central University, CCMB, DRDO, DMRL, Indian Bank Rserach Centre, BHEL, HAL, ECIL, MIDHANI, BDL,HCL, IDL, ARC etc., and host of new age companies like TCS, WIPRO, INFOSYS, SATYAM, MICROSIFT, ORACLE, MOTOROLA, CA, Deloit, Qulacom, etc., US Consulate, ICRISAT etc. The number and diversiy is life line for the entire state not a part of state. How can brilliant think tank at centre thought it can just give statement with out logically considering the centralized investment/ development in locaton can have very serious impact on other parts in the near furure. It is sorry with intellectuals like Dr.Singh as PM, the same old tactics and methods are employed. No questions, nor even GOD can save this country!!!!

We all should think that this nation which is striving to live with all border problems, terrorism which is making the country into chaotic situation. Added to this our own politicians called as leaders have started working for their own vested interest and selfish motives and for their own advantage. In last couple of months still millions have not recovered from the floods in the entire Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka & parts of Maharastra. We have not even come into terms of the 26/11 attach on Mumbai, last 50 years of struggle in Jammu it is still holding as firm as they can making us a weak nation. Many of our young soldiers have lost their lives in protecting our mother nation we all should respect their contribution when ever the country was attached by the foreign nationals and vested interest, Attach on Parliament is a shame that we could not able to withstand and could not able to bring the people into the law for punishment. Our great leaders for freedom struggle have given us the burden of making this country a young and dynamic to stand on its own and relived us from being a slaves for many centuries and gave us to live without depending on any of the big and powerful nations. At this juncture we need to become a super power in this region as whole. At the time of independence the country was not even in a position to make the needle, today we have come to certain stage where we are able to send the rockets to moon, the technology and people ideology of making the country to feel proud for their contribution in withstanding the hold of big super powers of the world.
