Student's hair cut as punishment
NDTV Correspondent, Saturday November 7, 2009, Mumbai

In another case of extreme punishment, a teacher in Maharashtra has chopped off a male student's hair.

The teacher at Karnala High School in Panvel was reportedly angry because the student's shirt was not completely buttoned up. The boy was a Class 9 student.

A case has been registered with the Panvel police against the teacher. "We saw the way our son had been humiliated, his shirt was torn, hair cut, the wounds to his face. We have filed a police complaint and want the teacher arrested," says Bhimsen Mali, the student's father.

Last week, in two separate cases in Andhra Pradesh, students were punished for speaking in Telugu instead of English.

In one case, a young boy and girl were forced to stand with placards around their necks declaring, "We will not speak in Teulgu."

In another case, a teacher made students write, "I will not speak in Telugu" over and over in their notebooks. When confronted, she described this as an exercise to improve handwriting.

In today's world, teachers should leave students to do as they wish. Even if students come inappropriately dressed, they cannot given them punishment because they will lose their jobs and get insulted by the police and secular Indian press. Lucky are students of todays generation. They can do what they want. They can insult and disobey any one and everyone and should not be punished. I am sure such things will make the future Indian students outstanding and disciplined Indian citizens. Thank you Indian press for being so good to Indian students who disobey. The Indian press is doing such an outstanding service to Indian society and they should be honored with Bharat Ratna

It is realy heart breaking what is happening our kids in India. We pray that things will change in India. About Andhra Pradesh what is wrong if a student speaks in his or her MOTHER TONGUE. No body has any right to punish a child if they speak in their Mother Tongue or in Our National Language. I do agree that everyone should lern English since it is more like a Global Language. And people who impose this ban on our Languages should be Punished
