Releasing Rajiv's assassin: Centre will be consulted
NDTV Correspondent, Wednesday February 3, 2010, Chennai

The central government will be consulted before the Tamil Nadu government makes a decision on whether to release Rajiv Gandhi's assassin from jail. That's what Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has clarified. (Read: Will Rajiv Gandhi's assassin leave jail soon?)

The advisory board of the Vellore Jail where Nalini Sriharan has spent nineteen years has reportedly recommended that she be freed for good behaviour. (Watch: Rajiv assassin Nalini to be released?)

Nalini was originally given the death sentence for her role in Rajiv Gandhi's death in 1991. After Nalini gave birth to a daughter in prison, this was commuted to a life sentence at the request of Sonia Gandhi, who said she didn't want to orphan a child.

Nalini has been asking that she be allowed to leave jail because of her ill-health. She says she wants to spend time with her daughter before she dies. (Watch: Rajiv's assassin wants to be a social worker

I dont think we need to release her as she has got involved in Rajiv's assassin. I think she is taking an advantage of her daughter to put pressure for her release. If she is old age Govt can disucss her release. My openion is not to release. There is no convince or free for murderers. They should get 100% of punishment for their act.

She should be released from jail. She already spent 19 years in jail.Thats enough for a woman in jail for any kind of crime. We cant still say that she killed rajiv gandhi for next 20 years so she shouldnt be released. Then why we didnt hang bhulan devis and sikh riot conspirators.Let her live peacefully for remaining time.
