"If anything is proved against me, I will quit politics," said Madhu Koda, Former Chief Minister, Jharkhand.

Brave words from someone charged with a Rs 4000 crore money-laundering scam, the former Jharkhand chief minister says as politicians normally do in such situations that it's a political conspiracy.

"There is someone who doesn't want Madhu Koda to become a leader as their shop will shut down," said Madhu Koda.

He may not have made it clear as to who is conspiring against him, but the one thing Mr Koda made clear, was that he will not submit himself to questioning by investigators, till he finishes campaigning for the Jharkhand Assembly elections.

"It is my democratic right to campaign," said Madhu Koda.

The Enforcement Directorate, investigating the scam, found that one of Madhu Koda's front companies deposited Rs 640 crore in a Union Bank branch in Mumbai. When questioned, Koda was evasive.

"All kinds of allegations are being made against me. Sometimes it's Rs 2000 crore or Rs 4,000 crore while some others say the amount is Rs 1,500 crore," said Koda.

"But those who are making such allegations should at least point where I have invested this money, where I have bought land or which bank I have parked this money in. Where is the proof that I have put so much money in such a bank," Asked Koda.

On Thursday, the 18-year-old son of one of the income tax inspectors involved in the raids against Madhu Koda was assaulted.

"Two days ago, the attack on an IT officer's son was blamed on me. But I was in Ranchi and the attack was in Jamshedpur," said Koda.

Over 70 properties and offices of Madhu Koda and his associates have been sealed. The Income Tax department has said it will be pushing for his arrest but for now Koda is defiant.
