Politician had grand-daughter murdered
NDTV Correspondent, Monday December 21, 2009, Bhopal
He already faces 10 murder and nine rape cases. Now, former Samajwadi Party MLA from Bundelkhand Ashok Vikram Singh has been arrested for allegedly getting his 21-year-old grand-niece killed.

Vasundhara, a student of fashion designing in Bhopal, had stayed the night of December 10 at Singh's house and was on her way to her college hostel when the former MLAs driver killed her. Her body was found in a jungle.

The motive remains unclear and the murder weapon is yet to be traced. DIG, Bhopal Ashok Awasthi said: "The motive is related to their personal differences. The exact reason for the murder will be out once we have all the information and evidence." But police sources said Vasundhara was in a relationship - one Singh did not approve of.

Ashok Vikram Singh and his wife and BJP MLA Asharani Singh were Vasundhara's local guardians. Vasundhara was Ashok Singh's step sister's grand-daughter.

Her parents live in Chhatarpur, 200 km from Bhopal. The victim's mother Bharthi Raja said: "We have been deceived. We had never imagined such an end. The monsters have murdered my daughter."
