A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said there would be no preconditions to peace talks with Pakistan, the Pakistani army fired mortar shells in the Keran sector of North Kashmir to push in militants.
The army says they have recovered arms and ammunition and an identity card belonging to Pakistani soldier Zohib Ayaz. Two radio sets, a map and a mobile phone with an Indian SIM card were also recovered from the area.
These are evidence that belies Pakistan's claims that it is only non-state actors like LeT, Hizbul and Jaish that operate in Kashmir.
"About 14 rounds of mortar shells were fired on our positions from across, after which movement was also observed. We retaliated with small arms and after searches of the area, we recovered dead body of two terrorist, arms and ammunition, and an identity card of a Pakistani solider," said Lt Colonel J S Brar, Defence spokesperson, Kashmir.
The army has now asked for a flag meeting with the Pakistan army to protest against the ceasefire violation. Since Thursday, two militants have been killed in a major army offensive against infiltration on the snow covered mountains in the Tanghdar sector. |
