There is tension in Shimoga district in Karnataka after two people were
killed during violent protests over an article written by Bangladeshi
author, Taslima Nasreen.
Curfew has been imposed in 4 localities in old Shimoga, which is also the hometown of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.
Things got out of hand when a crowd of around 1,500 people held a
protest against Taslima's piece in a leading Kannada daily on the
burqa.
"Our government won't allow any publication that hurts any religious sentiments. Appeal to our Muslim brothers for peace. FIR against the newspaper.", said Chief Minister of Karnataka, BS Yeddyurappa at a press conference.
