A steel scaffolding used in the construction of the financial capital's first Metro line collapsed in the northwest suburb of Sakineka late Monday night following gusty winds.

No one was injured in the incident, which took place when work was going on at the site.

The incident comes two days after an under-construction metro pillar collapsed in Delhi leaving six persons dead.

"It was a temporary scaffolding which we had put up during the construction and it fell due to the strong winds. We removed the debris in two to three hours. Work has resumed at the site," K P Maheshwari, Director of Mumbai Metro One, the consortium building the metro line between suburban Andheri and Ghatkopar, said Tuesday.

"We are going to conduct and inquriy into why the structure collapsed and come out with a report," he said.

The city has been lashed by heavy rains accompanied by strong winds since Monday night disrupting road and rail traffic.

Water logging was reported in many areas across the city disrupting traffic.

Laws ? What laws are we talking about ? Do these contractors really care about laws ? I would like to get one really good question to be answered by the contractor who is working on the site where this mishap happened - How many experienced & qualified CIVIL ENGINEERS does he have ? I bet the answer would be none. But on the other hand i'd commend the government for taking steps to improve the quality of life for mumbaikars, rather than ridicule & compare the progress with the what is there in the west and other countries. The only thing that needs to taken care is the quality of work & the safety precautions undertaken by the construction companies, which i do not think is too much to ask.

It is disgraceful that life is lost due to negligence and incompetence of the Companies and bodies involved in these accidents - There has to be stronger laws put in place where companies and Organisations responsible for construction of these faulty structures can be sued in the high courts , swiftly and fairly - Only this will deter such shoddy work and ensure that future projects are undertaken with more cafe and with a view towards safety to life as the highest priority. You will not see incompetence and negligence to this scale anywhere in the West. It is disgraceful
