Muthalik sent to judicial custody over Mysore violence
Vasanthi Hariprakash, Saturday July 25, 2009, Mysore

Fringe right wing group Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik was arrested in Karnataka on Saturday for inciting communal clashes in Mysore. He has also been charged with desecrating a place of worship.

Muthalik was produced in the Mysore sessions court on Saturday. After his involvement in the  infamous pub attacks in Mangalore this January, the Mysore police suspected he had a role to play in the July 2 Udaygiri riots.

Muthalik will be in judicial custody till July 28.

"We have filed a bail application also since the prosecutor sought time to file objection to our bail application. The case is adjourned till July 28 to file objection and hear our arguments," said Keshavamurthy, lawyer of Pramod Muthalik.

With the Mysore police seeking time from the court for further interrogation of Muthalik, it will be clear in the next few days whether the Rama Sene chief incited communal violence in an otherwise-calm Mysore.

Dear Abdul, People like Muthalik are cheap politicians trying for news coverage. Best possible solution is to put him behind bars for atleast five years. Unfortunately most of them keep quiet. It is a pity that we elected the quiet ignoring politicians

I respect people from all walks of life, religion and colour, and believe that we all have a right to live a life the way we want, and in a disciplined way; so as not to hurt the feelings of others. Freedom of speech is not freedom to abuse or blame someone without sound grounds. I am an Indian citizen and have been part of India now for 29 years, and I yet to clearly understand the agenda of likes of Muthalik. What does Hindutwa according to these people mean? is it to disturb the normal life of people, is it to bully weaker communities? is it to drive people up the wall and push them to leave the country? The Hindutwa that I am certain of will never take sides with such people. What Hindutwa are these people talking of????
