Mumbai skips 26/11 parade
NDTV Correspondent, Thursday November 26, 2009, Mumbai

As India remembers 26/11, an impressive show of strength was demonstrated by the Mumbai Police this morning.

Armed with its latest acquisitions: from AK47s, to amphibious vehicles, policemen marched down Mumbai's Marine Drive.

Their route began from the Trident Hotel, one of the sites of the 26/11 attack, to Girgaum Chowpatty.

Joining the police was the newly created elite Force One commandos, raised in the aftermath of 26/11, and trained along the lines of the NSG.

But as Yogesh Pawar reports, the city skipped the event.

The unprecedented rise in security in Mumbai on 26/11/2009, a year after the sad day, lead me to think why such security measures only today? Why not everyday. On most days there are only a few policemen totting slightly outdated arms near stations while security-check doors at stations are usually unmanned. Not to mention that a sudden rise in security today lead to inconvenience to many, more so because it was just a show to present a picture something is been done. Mind You the rise in security at some places was only because some netas or babus had assembled at some landmarks, the same people who were hiding during the attack. More police only today makes me feel less secure because this arrangement will be missing on most ordinary days, on days like 26/11/2008. Mumbai is perhaps the most attacked city by terrorist among the civilised cities of the democratic world. Apathy has crept in for Mumbaites as they want to move on and also because this show does not rise confidence simply because the same people who did little then can do little now as they lack will or strength or capability which cannot be replaced with some more men around and some new equipment. Mumbai shall remain vulnerable because we are a soft state and this makes us easy targets.

we love to forget 26/11 like as a nightmare but with the help of media, and some superbly smart politician we can never forget this in coming 100 years, Now we celebrate it like 15th August and 26th Janurary by oragnising the parade, wow what an idea Sir ji. By doing so we are actually executing the main agenda of terrorist, which was that indian never forget this day as their victory or as our humiliation
