It is raining heavily across Mumbai and Thane, particularly in the catchment areas of the reservoirs that provide water to Mumbai.

The rain has led to huge water-logging in low-lying areas of Andheri, Vile Parle, Goregaon, Bhandup, parts of Central Mumbai and Thane.

Flights at Mumbai airport are also seeing a marginal delay of about 15 minutes, and trains on the Harbour and Central lines are running very slowly because of the water-logging.

However, speaking to NDTV, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has said that the situation is under control and there is no need for people to panic.

Meanwhile, the Dadar-Ratnagiri passenger train has been stranded after rocks fell on the tracks. And in Bandra, the subway wall has collapsed leaving three people injured.

A fire brigade rescue team has been alerted and disaster helpline numbers have been flashed.

The Mithi river has swollen and is flowing at 2.1 metres, just 0.6 metres below the danger level.

According to the Met department till 5 pm, Deonar received 249.9 mm of rainfall and Chembur got 222.5 mm. Dharavi got 178 mm of rainfall while Bandra-Kurla Complex 177 and Andheri 172 mm of rainfall.

Fire brigade rescue numbers:
Kurla 25039200; Chembur 25224824; Bandra 26435206; Bandra-Kurla Complex 26522426; Marol 29200940; Borivli 28602847

Disaster helpline number: 139 and 10720

PTI adds:

A 40-year-old woman died of electrocution while a 10-year-old boy was injured due to electrocution in Govandi as incessant heavy rains lashed the city, officials said.

Heavy rain triggered a landslide in suburban Bhandup and a wall collapsed at Mahul near Shiv Sena office. Incidents of tree felling were also reported at 12 places.

The weather bureau has forecast frequent spells of rain with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days in some parts of the city.

I THINK IT IS VERY SAD NEWS THAT IN THEIR DESPERATION TO HOLD ON TO POWER, THIS GOVT. MAFIA HAS FOREGONE THE PROGRESS OF THE NATION...BY PRESENTING A POPULIST BUDGET---- ALL THE TAXPAYERS MONEY THAT HAS BEEN "ALLOCATED" , WILL OBVIOUSLY BE IN THE MAFIA'S POCKETS. IT IS TRULY SAD AND ALARMING THAT INDIA IS LOSING SO MUCH TIME....TO BECOME A SUPERPOWER. RIGHT NOW IT IS LIKE A "FAT JUICY CARCASS" THAT THESE GANDHI DYNASTIC-FEUDAL MAFIA AND THEIR MINIONS ARE SCAVENGING ON. MUMBAI WAS SUPPOSED TO BE CONVERTED INTO SHANGHAI , THEN THE FLOODS TOOK PLACE IN 2006, THEN MUMBAI WAS "NEVER GOING TO SUFFER SUCH A STATE AGAIN"..... I THINK THE ENTIRE DEMOCRACY HAS COLLAPSED. ONLY BJP (WHATEVER ITS OTHER FAULTS ) CAN SAVE INDIA FROM THESE DYNASTIC SCAVENGERS... THE REASON IS THAT THEIR SOUL IS THE RSS- ONE TO THE ONLY REMIANING DISCIPLINED ORGANISATION IN THE COUNTRY. Mumbai is a mess & who is to blame?? Well to put it into perspective only 30% of the roads are run by the BMC, the rest is run by the MMRDA, Port Trust, Airport Authorities, etc.. Thus its unfair to blame the BMC alone as 70% of are woes are the current congress governments fault. Who are not allocating funds for Mumbai (whilst they are also in power at the center.) Till mumbai doesn't get the relevant funds, all the mumbaikars will suffer..
