Is fuel price hike now imminent?
NDTV Correspondent, Thursday February 11, 2010, New Delhi

The Congress has indicated that a fuel hike is inevitable, but the final decision is likely to be announced in a couple of days.

Petroleum Minister Murli Deora has submitted the Kirit Parekh report to the Congress Core Committee.

The report has recommended total decontrol of fuel prices as well as a significant hike in prices.

The Opposition is now gearing up to attack the government in Parliament later this month on the issue.

@Vimlakar : The biggest SOP being handed out is to us the consumers. We have a highly subsidized Petrol & Diesel and a ridiculously Subsidized Kerosene & LPG Gas for domestic consumption. I am all for getting the price of Petrol and Diesel to be market linked and capping the number of gas cylinders per household. We cannot tom tom about a few measly crores in perks while enjoying 10000 Crore plus of subsidies per year.

Please ask the Petroleum Min to stop the sops offered to the employees of the Oil Companies. This will cut down the loss suffered by these companies to some extent rather than putting the load on the heads of the common man.
