India's stand that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of the country has never been soft, Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu said in Itanagar on Sunday.

Responding to a query during his first press conference after taking oath as chief minister of the border state for a second consecutive term, Khandu said, "New Delhi's stand has never been soft in asserting its position on the issue".

Noting that bilateral relations between India and China are improving, Khandu appealed to media to refrain from comparing the strength and capabilities of the two Asian giants.

"India's military capability has considerably improved since the 1962 Chinese aggression. But such comparison is a disservice to the nation as India and China are improving their bilateral relations," he said.

On the issue of China reportedly building a massive dam on Tsango River in Tibet feeding the Brahmaputa in India, Khandu said the prime minister told a delegation led by him last week that China had informed it was not a dam but a hyrdo power project which would not affect the flow downstream.
