With Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan being detained and questioned at Newark airport, India on Saturday took up the issue with the US Embassy in New Delhi, which said it was ascertaining details about the incident involving the "global icon" who was welcome to America.

"The matter was taken up with the US Embassy," External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said soon after the reports about detention of the actor reached.

He said the Embassy was ascertaining factual details of the incident.

Consul General of India in New York is in touch with Khan, Prakash added.

US Ambassador to India Timothy J Roemer issued a separate statement, saying, "We are trying to ascertain the facts of the case -- to understand what took place."

Describing Shah Rukh Khan as a "global icon", Roemer said, "He is a very welcome guest in the United States. Many Americans love his films."

Shahrukh Khan Detention: This bragging actor deserves it. These Bollywood chaps think all world knows them. Why is the media so very serious about it? India should learn from the US such security measures if it wants to do away with even more terror attacks. This might be a publicity stunt by Shahrukh Khan for his upcoming film 'My Name is Khan'. Karan Johar must be the happiest because of this 'incident' (might be deliberate and planned and monitored). The Investigations need to be directed the other way round. Afterall, US immigration officials need a few bucks too. Netas (politcians) and Abhinetas (actors)---The Indian Media takes them too seriously. Best Wishes, Pallavi Barua Guwahati Assam

Shah Rukh khan incident need not be taken seriously for it is only natural and quite essentail for Americas security to do such things. They managed to keep terrorist attacks away from their soil on account of these kind of strong actions. They must continue to do the same for the sake of their peoples security.in fact there is no need of any expression of resentment from indian goverment about this silly incident for there was no feeling of anger from the part of indian goverment when our former president Abdul kalam faced similar disgraceful experience in America. Is Shah Rukh Khan bigger than Abdul Kalam, in my opinion never.
