India not protecting minorities: US commission

The VHP workers in Kandamal observed the first death anniversary of their leader, Swami Laxmananand, on Thursday. His killing a year ago had sparked off a wave of anti-Christian violence in the district.

Now, in a major embarrassment for New Delhi, a US government commission has placed India on a watch list along with countries like Somalia and Afghanistan for what it calls a disturbing increase in communal violence. Kandhmal and the riots in Gujarat have been specifically cited.

The commission whose members are Republicans and Democrats, appointed by the President said, "It is extremely disappointing that India has done so little to protect and bring justice to its religious minorities under siege. In both Orissa and Gujarat, perpetrators are rarely brought to justice."

India has reacted sharply, calling the report regrettable.

"We don't need lessons from outside bodies," MoS, External Affairs, Shashi Tharoor said.

But despite that snub from the government, Indian officials admit that the country's credibility is hurt and a report like this can be used for India bashing at international forums.

Its not US job to peek into the affairs of India. Despite what United State has commented is true. Its weird that India has not shown any courage to protect to minorities in Gujarat and Khandamal. Gujarat issue is National Shame and it will remain until justice fading. Current Congress Government said to be secular has not done anything to these communities, they have also seem to be forgotten how they raced this year polls. Gujarat is turning to be grave yard for minorities. India lack in his agenda to support minorities, they have agenda in stages and votes banking to attract them, but no paper work to support them.

I am not even going to start protecting India and its policies in terms of minority safety. we have major riots almost every 10 years and minor incidents every month, in one form or another. the only question I have is which country in world is going to stand on platform hand on its heart and say that all its citizens are not only safe but also treated equally in the eyes of law and other citizens. France with its Burqini issues, US with its Katrina management,UK with its shooting 'pakistani' looking person in broad daylight, and australia with its 'curry bashing' fundas, can say what they like but its only minorities living there who can comment on how safe they feel in the law of the land.
