7 satellites launched in 20 minutes
NDTV Correspondent, Wednesday September 23, 2009, Sriharikota

Relieved scientists describe it as a perfect launch. The Indian Space Research Organization or ISRO has launched 7 satellites into space one after another in a matter of 20 minutes.  India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle or PSLV lifted off from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday afternoon.

The 70-crore PSLV proves it's India's workhorse rocket with this latest mission, its 16th in as many years. The PSLV was carrying Oceansat 2, a remote-sensing spacecraft, and 6smaller satellites. The 960-kilo Oceansat-2, will study oceans, and its data is likely to be a great help for fishermen

Piggybacking with Oceansat-2 were 6 smaller nano-satellites from Switzerland, Germany and Turkey, all of which have been placed successfully into their prescribed orbits.

With a constellation of 10 remote sensing satellites already in space, India is a space power to reckon with.

This is one of the great achievement of ISRO. Congratulations each and everyone of the team members. It is empowering and proving that Indian scientists are more capable of anything. It is high time that annual budget for ISRO should be increased from one billion, to accomplish more fruitful experiments. I even congratulate prematurely Chandryan team for their effort to find water in the moon.
