Gujarat by-polls: It's advantage Modi
NDTV Correspondent, Monday September 14, 2009, Ahmedabad

It's advantage Narendra Modi in Gujarat by-elections. After the poor show in Lok Sabha elections and loss in Junagadh Municipal polls, the BJP has won four of the six assembly seats declared. The BJP is also leading in the seventh seat yet to be declared.

The Congress has won two seats.

Of the four seats won by BJP, three were held by the Congress.

BJP candidates have won from Danta, Jasdan, Sami, Dehgam and Chotila while Congress got just two seats - Dhoraji and Kodinar.

Earlier, Congress held six of the seven seats while Kodinar was with the BJP.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi had kept a low profile during these elections. He had not campaigned for the party in the by-polls, which are considered to be a test of his popularity in the state.
