BJP MLA from Rajgadh constituency Fatehsinh Chauhan was arrested on Monday after he surrendered in connection with the 2002 riot case registered against him here.

"We have arrested Chauhan at 11 am today for a case registered against him for dacoity and rioting," District Superintendent of Police Vipul Agrawal said.

According to police, Chauhan had surrendered at the Devgadh Bariya police station following which he was arrested.

He is likely to be produced in the court late in the day for obtaining his police remand, they said.

Chauhan was recently declared an absconder in the 2002 riot case in Vav Kundli village of Devgadh Baria taluka in Dahod.

The riots had taken place following the Godhra train carnage incident, where 59 people, mostly 'karsevaks', were charred to death near the Godhra railway station on February 27, 2002.
