The Governor of Haryana has given Chief Minister Bhoopinder Singh Hooda one week to prove the majority of his government on the floor of the House.

Cabinet expansion is expected in the state only after the government proves majority.

"The Governor has given us one week to prove the majority. We will call the House and after that the expansion of Cabinet will take place," Hooda said.

The newly-elected Chief Minister also exuded confidence that they have enough numbers.

"I will try my best to fulfill the expectations of the people. The results were not up to the expectations, we will analyse and if there is any shortcomings on our behalf we will try and sort it out. We want to make Haryana number one," Hooda said.

Hooda was named the chief minister of Haryana for a second term after a decision following hectic parleys in the Congress high command on Saturday.

Speaking to NDTV after being chosen the chief minister, Hooda said he was grateful to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and that he would continue with the development works in the state.

"I am grateful to the Congress president because the legislative party had left the decision to her. I would like to repose the trust she has shown in me," said Hooda.

"I would like to continue with the development works started last time," he added.
