Finally, justice catching up with Rathore
NDTV Correspondent, Wednesday December 30, 2009, New Delhi

Ruchika Girhotra's family lawyer will meet top Home Ministry officials on Wednesday.

The ministry has called Ruchika's lawyer Pankaj Bhardwaj to Delhi to discuss how to go about the case.

The centre has decided to make sure that the retired ex DGP of Haryana can't get away this time.

On her 16th death anniversary, Ruchika Girhotra's family and friends won a major battle. Two fresh police cases have been filed against the senior police officer who molested her. (Read & Watch: Fresh FIRs against molester-cop Rathore)

The two new cases accuse Rathore of fabricating documents related to Ruchika's death and of using his position to frame her brother, Ashu, of theft. Ashu was arrested in 1993. Unable to cope with the persecution of her family, Ruchika drank poison. Her brother was released from prison immediately after her death, and acquitted of all charges.

The CBI indicated on Tuesday that new cases could be made out against Rathore on the basis of disclosures made by former joint director R M Singh who initially handled the case. Singh had said that Rathore tried to influence him and expressed his willingness to testify. (Read: Justice for Ruchika: How you can help)

Is Ruchika being forgotten? I know there is other news, but over the last few weeks, the attenttion the case is getting is dropping. The CBI is going slow in questioning one of their own. It looks like it is this case that will go in the dustbin and not Rathore himself. Let us never forget that justice delayed is justice denied. 19 years is long enough.

I think the way media has taken the Ruchika case in behalf of a family who was forced to suffer silently. I think NDTV coverage is the best for its sharp comments and hope that anybody would not try to copy SPS Rathore form fear of media because in our country people dont fear the law.
