Did A Raja try to influence judge?
A Vaidyanathan, Thursday July 2, 2009, New Delhi

The government is now under tremendous pressure to act against Union Minister A Raja, he denies that he tried to influence a Madras High Court judge but Jayalalithaa has gone on record with her allegations.

The Madras High Court scandal has been thrown wide open.

The Union Telecom Minister A Raja is fighting off allegations that he called a judge to influence a bail verdict. His name was made public by his party's chief rival Jayalalithaa.

NDTV asked A Raja on Jayalalithaa's allegations.

A Raja, Union Minister For IT: Baseless and politically motivated allegations.
NDTV: Jaya has accused you.
A Raja, Union Minister For IT: Baseless and politically motivated allegations. That's all

In a statement Jayalalithaa said: "It does not require any super human intelligence to conclude that the Union Minister who had pressured a judge is A Raja."

The BJP was a bit more subtle.

"Minister raja nahin hota (mentioning in a sly way Raja). If there are probes, the PM can direct the telecom Minister (Raja) to look into phone records of ministers and the judge," said Arun Jaitley, senior leader, BJP.

However, the opposition is united in demanding action. But the government has refused on the fact that the judge Justice R Reghupathy has not named the minister against whom he made the allegation in open court on Monday.

Raja had the backing of his party during the troubled spectrum allegations. In the judge controversy, sources say, Raja has the complete backing of his party leadership. Now, it is upto the Madras high court judge to reveal the truth.

Minister Raja has found his name earlier with the Spectrum allocation, where he had some part to play in allocating the spectrum to his well wishers. Its time that Dr Manmohan Singh crack the whip and throw him out of the cabinet atleat show respect to the people of his country who have voted him to power for the second time. Let Dr Manmohan Singh be our role model in fighting corruption which is very rampant.
