False alarm about radioactive cargo on Chennai ship
NDTV Correspondent, Friday November 20, 2009, Chennai

It was a tense day at the Chennai port, but it ended in relief.

After hours spent searching a ship called the MV Garland, a team of experts declared the ship does not have radioactive cargo.

In the morning, an anonymous caller warned port officials to inspect the ship for dangerous material. Officials from Customs, the Coast Guard, and the Kalpakkam nuclear plant  got to work immediately.

The Garland set sail from Vishakhapatnam and is registered in Malta. It docked at Chennai on Tuesday.
