Concern over why India can't quiz Headley
Press Trust of India, Tuesday December 15, 2009, New Delhi

CPI-M has expressed serious concern over Indian investigating agencies not being allowed to interrogate LeT operative David Coleman Headley and sought to know what steps the government is taking into the matter.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, party member Brinda Karat said Headley, earlier a drug smuggler, worked as an undercover agent of the US intelligence agency CIA since 1999 and the US government helped him make frequent trips to Pakistan. He even travelled to India after the Mumbai blasts. FBI was aware of Headley's antecedents even before Mumbai blasts, she said adding, "We want to know did FBI pass on real time intelligence to Indian agencies."

Karat asked why Indian investigators were denied access to Headley when FBI was allowed to interrogate Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist caught alive in 26/11 attacks.

"Did our Prime Minister raise the issue with the US President," she asked. She also wanted to know what steps are being taken to ensure that Indian investigators question Headley at the earliest.

A number of members associated with her on the issue.

United States has very strict procedure for interrogation under Miranda Law where suspect can only be interviewed when he gives consent and after a suspect is in judicial custody the suspect has to give permission and has to be accompained by his attorney. there is no provision of police remand in the USA, once suspect is in judicial custody no on can interview the suspect not even FBI unless suspect gives permission

USA has started to share some info with India of late thanks to greater cooperation between the countries. This does not mean that each and every information US posses will be shared with us. India is not Israel or UK. Even if USA and other western counties share partial info with us on any terror matter, it will be still beneficial to us in the long run. This stupid communist lady knows this and tries to drive a wedge between India and USA. Their ultimate motto is distance India from USA and ultimately again try to turn India into anti-west country of the 1970s and 1980s period. Let us not be carried away by these Communists trickery! Remember something is still better than nothing!
