Home Minister P Chidambaram is in Ranchi on a surprise visit. This is his second visit to the Maoist-affected state in less than a month. However, there is no official word on the purpose of his visit to the state.

The visit holds significance, as the Jharkhand Cabinet is likely to consider Home Ministry's recommendation to dissolve the state Assembly.

Jharkhand is under President's Rule since January this year.

Chidambaram will come back to the capital on Friday.
