Ishrat case: Home Ministry files revised affidavit
NDTV Correspondent, Wednesday September 30, 2009, Ahmedabad

The Home Ministry has filed a revised affidavit in the Ishrat Jehan encounter case. The ministry filed the affidavit in the Gujarat High Court on Wednesday morning.

The three-page affidavit was prepared by the Home Ministry and settled by the Attorney General GE Vahanvati.

NDTV has a copy of the affidavit, which says Intelligence inputs given by the Centre do not constitute conclusive proof and it is for the Gujarat government and its police to act on such inputs.

It also says that the Centre wasn't aware that a magistrate enquiry was pending when it filed its earlier affidavit. And that the Centre had only passed on Intelligence inputs and it did not amount to justifying the killings.

The affidavit also adds that the Centre has no objection to a CBI probe into the encounter.
NDTV had reported last week that the government was proposing the new affidavit.

Very sad that an innocent have been killed so brutally as inquiry report says, Comments posted by reji are absolutely correct and the govt. should act by initiating action and bring back the confidence of innocent people.

What a sorry state of affairs? Instead of fighting the battle for the citizen of the country our establishment are defending the wrong actions of the police, It is sad to see that they are justifying this on the basis of some vague intelligence inputs. The other more horryfying fact is that the battle is being pushed in public domain and sympathy is being generated for the actions of the police. We claim to be a Great nation "India" but the greatness will lie in accepting the fault and apologising to the family of person who has been Slaughtered in the name of terrorism.
