Karnataka BJP crisis: Reddys threaten, Yeddy cries
NDTV Correspondent, Saturday November 7, 2009, New Delhi

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa had tears in his eyes on Saturday, when he spoke about the changes he has been forced to make in his cabinet.

Speaking to Kanadda channel Suvarna News, Yeddyurappa said that he was forced to drop Rural Development Minister Shobha K and Principal Secretary Baligar due to pressure from the high command.

"In a bid to save my chair, I had to drop my key aides," Yeddyurappa said, as he broke down on television.

Meanwhile, rebel  leader Janardhan Reddy stands defiant and has dismissed the 24-hour ultimatum the BJP has given him and his brothers - to either stand down or face elections. Reddy insists there is no compromise formula. He maintains his old demands and says there is no change in his stand. He is still demanding the ouster of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. The Karnataka tourism minister said this before leaving Hyderabad for Bangalore to hold discussions with elder brother Karunakara Reddy and others in his camp.

Yeddyurappa, who is headed to Vaishnodevi and then back to Karnataka, claims the BJP leadership has told him that the crisis is solved. He insists the government headed by him will complete its full term.

The beleaguered BJP meanwhile has come up with a new formula to defuse the ongoing political crisis in the state.

The party will now form a coordination panel to discuss the issues, including the appointment of officials in Bellary district.

The BJP has also taken a decision to induct Karnataka Speaker Jagdish Shettar into the Cabinet, and drop Rural Development Minister Shobha. Shettar may quit as Speaker on Saturday.

The crisis within the BJP has been snowballing with the dissenting Reddy brothers of Bellary now claiming that they have the support of 52 MLAs who have sent in their resignation letters to them. This includes four Cabinet ministers.

When you have two crime camps fighting against each other, the laws of physics prevail. Same poles always repel (to be read a rebel)

"In a bid to save my chair, I had to drop my key aides," See there. He is speaking his heart. To save his position, he will do anything, including dropping key aides. What a shame. We have politicians who can go any extent to save their positions.
