BJP takes ex-PM Shastri's death issue to President
Press Trust of India, Thursday July 30, 2009, New Delhi

With the Central government refusing to share information on circumstances leading to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's death, BJP on Thursday asked the President to intervene in the matter to clear all doubts.

In a memorandum submitted to President Pratibha Patil, the BJP asked her to "direct the government to come clean and clear all doubts on Shastriji's death, which remains an issue even after four decades".

The memorandum quoted an interview of late Shastri's wife Lalita in which she had questioned the circumstances leading to her husband's demise in the then Soviet Union in 1966.

The party said it took the decision to submit a memorandum to the President after the Prime Minister's Office refused to entertain an RTI plea seeking declassification of documents relating to the death of Shastri.

The memorandum said the RTI plea was rejected as declassification of the information could harm foreign relations or lead to incitement of an offence.

The delegation included former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, Rajya Sabha member Prakash Javadekar and former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

any poltical crime is normally committed by the person next in line to the throne... if PM shastri has infact being murdered. then this is not the wrong time but infact the absolutely appropriate time to reveal who killed him. the reason for that is that only after a long period are the documents with such sensitivity are declassified. AS TO WHO DID IT... CONNECT THE DOTS. WHO GOT THE MOST ADVANTAGE OUT OF IT???

IT's indeed sad that even after 43 years of GREAT LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI , who taught a hard lesson to Pakistan in the Indo-Pak war then, his death is shrouded in mystery (Like several great leaders of the world). Whatever said ....the TRUTH must be out for the nation to know about this GREAT PM -- though I think at this present juncture, NO FRUITFUL DECISON can be taken by the GOVT. or any hard action against the "culprit nation where Shastriji was said to have been murdered. MAY SHASTRIJI's Soul rest in Peace. And let the nation NOT forget about the contribution & role of this simple and humble PM. S.KRISHNA KUMAR DOMBIVLI
