Press Trust of India, Wednesday August 19, 2009, Ahmedabad

In a double whammy for Jaswant Singh who was expelled from BJP, the Gujarat government on Wednesday banned his controversial book on Pakistan founder M A Jinnah alleging it defamed the image of Vallabhbhai Patel.

"The Home Department has issued a notification putting a ban on sale of Jaswant Singh's book Jinnah: India, Partition, Independence in the state," an official in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) official told PTI here.

"The book has been banned as it has certain references on Sardar Patel which defames his image," he said, adding, "the ban comes with immediate effect."

The book praises Pakistan's founder M A Jinnah and accuses first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Patel of being responsible for the partition of the country.

It is an destroying act of individual views and expression. Union government put an end to such kind of banning the books in respective state without consulting the central government and expert committee. Really that book dishonors our country image or appraised outside the person is the million dollar question emanated in general public. Before Indian partition Jinnah also played an important role in Inidan independence and aftermath happed is history. Jaswath Singh as taken five years to produce that book and as he told did some research to write that book and presented the facts without any fabrications. If that book text really hurts some organization or section of society must open to public for debate and discussion to arrive correct opinion on and not preventing work by prohibit sale of that in particular geographical region. Now Gujarath government banned that book, who knows this action may influences rest of the BJP ruled government to follow his action in coming days. Our country is witnessed few incident of banning books which hurts the sentiment of specific religions and derogatory approach towards the national leaders. For few books government has ban as it comes to Nation pride and written by foreign author and the content complied in those books were against to fact or far from the truth. Some of the popular books have been banned Government of India but failed to reader to curb by reading those books, preserved in their house library or add to their personal collection. But the titles like HIMALAYAN BLUNDER AND THE SATANIC VERSES though banned by Indian government for several reasons available in market in disguise way. Banning the books and ostracizing the authors is not good for the country like ours as we practice polytheism, atheism, polyreligion and proud about ourselves living in the impression of unity in diversity. Every person having different kind of views and expression depends on his/her grown environment and their faiths and beliefs. Governments have the complete rights to curb the books which creates tension among religions, hurts the country image or against to the society and its faith that too proper consultation with experts. Union government put an end to banning of controversial (connive) book without proper debate and discussion. Respective state government or Union government ban the books which creates tremor in the society only after sought the expert opinion of different walks of life.
