Bengal top cop suspended after he blames govt for Maoist attack
NDTV Correspondent, Sunday February 21, 2010, Kolkata

The Chief Minister of West Bengal has suspended the Special IG of Eastern Frontier Rifles, a paramilitary force of the state police whose camp was attacked by Maoists.

This comes hours after the IG, Benoy Chakraborty, held a press conference with his face covered throughout, and blamed the state government for the recent Maoist attack in West Midnapore district that killed 23 jawans and a civilian. (Read & Watch: Bengal Maoist attack: Top cop blames Govt)

The IG came down heavily on the state authorities, particularly West Midnapore superintendent of police chief Manoj Verma, for not providing proper infrastructure.

He also accused the authorities of ill-treating the jawans and questioned the decision of setting up the camp at a crowded place.

He conducted the entire presser with is face covered. He also directly attacked the West Midnapore Superintendent of Police saying he had repeatedly demanded the Silda camp be moved. But the state police just didn't listen to him.

"People who run this district and even higher officials know that this camp is not safe. The SP was asked many times to shift this camp out, but he did nothing about it. Our jawans have always been living in horrible conditions and are ill-treated," he said.

The officer is really brave since he is calling aspade aspade. It really needs lot of guts to question the wrong doings of your superiors/ organisation. However why did he cover his face?

yes, I am with this IG, His covered face shows our leaders(so called heroes of future) attitude to our freedom. If we want to finish, we should do what we have done in punjab in 1990-96.
