Bar Association opposes Dinakaran's promotion
NDTV Correspondent, Saturday November 28, 2009, New Delhi

In the latest development in the Justice Dinakaran case, the Bar Association of India has opposed the decision to promote him.

The Bar has asked the Supreme Court Collegium not to pursue the controversial Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran's promotion, saying that 'the credibility of the judiciary must be saved'.

It has been a litmus test for the judiciary to decide what's next for Justice Dinakran, who has been accused of corruption, including land grabbing.

The Supreme Court Collegium has already met twice to decide on Justice Dinakaran's promotion to the apex court but no decision has been taken yet.

Supreme Court Collegium may be sacked for their inordinate dealy in resolving the issue, at public expense. It is very well known by now that the Justice will not resign on his own (the times have changed!). But what is stopping the CGI to act? Any fear that the Justice in question may expose other associates too? Any common sense is at a loss here!

INSTEAD OF REJECTING THE ELEVATION OF DINAKARAN OUTRIGHT, IT SEEMS THAT THE CJI WANTS TO FAVOUR HIM JUST BECAUSE HE HAPPENS TO BE OF THE SAME CASTE AS HIS. SINCE THE TIME THIS CJI HAS COME, NONE OF THE DECISIONS OF THE SC HAVE BEEN WORTH REMEMBERING.
