Advani started mudslinging, he should not complain: PM
NDTV Correspondent, Sunday April 19, 2009, New Delhi

Speaking in his first interview to an Indian TV channel after becoming PM, Singh told NDTV's Maya Mirchandani that Advani should not complain as he was the one who started the mudslinging, calling him the weakest prime minister the country has ever seen.

"Mr Advani started the mudslinging. He has no business to complain," said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said that Advani had been calling him a 'nikamma' prime minister, subservient to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

"It's only now that I have replied to that sort of mudslinging," he said.

Prime Minister accused the Leader of Opposition of being engaged in mudslinging for the last five years.

The Congress has in the recent past taken the attacks of Advani on the Prime Minister head on. The top party leadership, including the Prime Minister, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and chairperson Sonia Gandhi, has been attacking the saffron party leader.

The PM had earlier in a press conference said, "Weakness or strength doesn't come from loud speaking, it comes from determination in tougher times. Look at the response of the government when the plane was hijacked and our response to 26/11. If u look at what Advani said on Walk the Talk on NDTV in an interview to Mr Shekhur Gupta he said that he didn't know about the Kandahar episode. What does that tell you about his control?"

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, on his part, had said: "When Kandahar happened, the terrorist who was released went and carried out numerous attacks. Mr Advani stated that he did not know of the flight to Kandahar of Jaswant Singh or the three people being released.
"If he was such a strong leader how could the Home Minister not know something so fundamental. There are only two possibilities: That his leader did not trust him or he was not telling the truth."

Advani has been mudslinging ever since, now that he knows that this is his last chance to become PM, he and his party are stooping to really low levels. Most PMs and presidents of many other countries are very appreciative of Manmohan Singh's work because he has been able to keep India immune from the global economic recession. Remember an honest, well educated and a soft-spoken person like Dr. Manmohan Singh usually ignored nasty remarks made by the BJP and its affiliates, whether it were "weak PM" or " puppet PM " or the "12 O clock" remarks recently made by their newly discovered 'hero' in Varun Gandhi or sometime back by Modi. But its good that Dr. Manmohan Singh finally stood up and replied them back, which the BJP's leaders really deserved. Advani stands no comparison when compared to Manmohan Singh in any of the qualities required of a PM. I strongly agree with Ms. Neha above who said " Manmohan Singh's words speak louder than Advani's voice" Anybody can gibber in a loud voice, but what matters is the quality of your speech and not the volume of your speech........that determines the strength and weakness.

There is nothing wrong in what LK Advani is saying. It is a fact that Manmohan Singh is acting on behalf of Sonia Gandhi. The remote control lies with Sonia. I have a great respect for Manmohan Singh as an economist, but as a PM his performance is below par. It was clear right from Day 1 that he is going to act as per Sonia's instructions. If this is not so, why doesn't Sonia come out in the open and clarify the issue once and for all. Congress is known for its dynastic leadership. Only way to survive in that party is by sycophancy. And Manhmohan Singh has ably demonstrated that
