A golden birthday for Karunanidhi
Sam Daniel, Wednesday June 3, 2009, Chennai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi turned 86 on Wednesday.

To celebrate the occasion, the Chennai corporation will gift golden rings to newborns in government hospitals.

Just a few days back, Karunanidhi's elder son M K Azhagiri was made a Union Minister and his younger son M K Stalin took over as the state's Deputy Chief Minister.

Also this time it's a united family, as a few months ago, Karunanidhi made up with his estranged grand nephews - the Maran brothers.

PTI adds: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on  Wednesday greeted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on his 86th birthday.

Both leaders conveyed their greetings over phone, official sources said.

CPI National Secretary D Raja also wished Karunanidhi on his birthday.
