6 Indians die after being run over by car in Nepal

Six Indians, including a teenaged boy, were killed and one seriously injured when a speeding car hit them while they were walking on a pavement here early Wednesday morning.

The accident took place when the seven persons returning from a hospital were run over by a car at around 12.45 a m, a police official said.

Police said the Indians, all from Bihar currently staying in the Nepalese capital, were returning from Bir Hospital after getting done the medical check-up of a 15-year-old boy.

Six of them, including the boy, died while on their way to the hospital. One Dipak Gupta from Sitamarhi who was seriously injured is undergoing treatment at the Bir Hospital.

While five of those killed have been identified, the details of one are yet to be known.

The dead include Dharmanath Sinha, 50, Krishna Devi, 40, Madan Gupta, 29, Sanjiv Gupta, 15, who were all from Sitamarhi in Bihar and Bina Singh, 46 from Motihari. An 18-year-old unidentified person was also killed in the accident.

The car was in very high speed at the time of the accident and the victims were hit even though they were walking on the footpath, police said.

The three people who were inside the car, including the driver fled the scene. The police seized the vehicle and a hunt is on to locate the culprits.

Eyewitnesses said blood was splattered everywhere on the street.

The area in the heart of Kathmandu was tense as hundreds of people gathered at the spot and blocked traffic for hours demanding strong action against the culprits.
