NDTV Correspondent, Monday September 28, 2009, Srinagar

Three militants from the Lashkar-e-Toiba or LeT have been killed in South Kashmir; two of them were from Pakistan, the third was a local militant.

An elderly woman was killed in the crossfire; 4 jawans have been injured.

The militants were allegedly planning a suicide attack.  The encounter took place in Amlar Village in Tral in Kashmir.  It began when the militants who were hiding in a house in the village started shooting at a search party of the police and the CRPF.

"We cordoned off the village early this morning. We came under heavy fire thereafter as a result of which three jawans of CRPF and one from Jammu and Kashmir Police got injured but they are all out of danger," says Farooq Ahmed, IG, Kashmir.
