My Name is Khan has been at the receiving end of the Shiv Sena's ire for Shah Rukh's comments on Pakistani players in the IPL.
But despite the entire controversy surrounding My Name is Khan, Mumbaikars defied the Sena threat and came out in full force to watch the film.

cinemas, including most of Mumbai's big multiplexes like Fun Cinemas
and Inox, began screening the film by 12.30 pm. Two hours later, most
of Mumbai's multiplexes began showing the film. Four single-screen
cinemas were also on board. Mumbai generates the most money for
Bollywood releases. And in Mumbai, multiplexes do the most business. (

Seeing
the overwhelming response to his film, Shah Rukh tweeted, "i am humbled
by this show of love & kindness. so dont know wot else to say.

Berlin, a grateful Karan Johar, who has directed the film, tweeted "Am
overwhelmed and moved to tears with all the support our labour of love
is getting. Thank you. Thank you. Your hand on our head makes us." (

But as Mumbaikars came out in a show of strength against the Sena, a defiant Bal Thackeray issued a statement saying the campaign against My Name Is Khan has been successful.
He also said the Sena never asked Shah Rukh to apologise to them, but had sought an apology to the nation.
Thackeray said for the Sena the nation is always first and larger than anything else, and added that if thinking about the nation is a crime; Shiv Sainiks will do it repeatedly.
