Polling underway for Maharashtra council

Polling to fill in vacancies from the local self-government bodies to the Maharashtra Legislative Council began in Mumbai today morning.

Apart from Mumbai, bypolls are also being held at Solapur, Kolhapur, Akola-Washim-Buldhana, Ahmednagar, Nagpur and Nashik divisional graduates' constituency.

In Dhule, Congress corporator has been elected unopposed.

In Mumbai, Leader of Opposition in the previous Assembly Ramdas Kadam, who was defeated in the recent assembly polls, has been fielded by the Shiv Sena while Congress has nominated Bhai Jagtap, who also lost the Assembly elections.

 BJP, which has fielded Madhu Chavan, has only 29 corporators.
