A trip to Water Kingdom in Mumbai on
Friday cost 40 students dear. Their mobile phones, cash and other
valuables were stolen. But their ordeal didn't end there. Their clothes were
gone too and some had to return home in towels.
"We reached the water park
around noon. When we asked about lockers we were told there weren't any
available. We were then asked to leave our baggages on the rack and were issued
a receipt. The authorities assured that our stuff will remain safe," said
Yash Shah (name changed), a resident of Kandivli and a student of SVIS School.
More than 3,000 college-goers
visited the park on that day to avail of a special discount for HSC and SSC
students.
Shah lost his shoes, which cost Rs
1,000, but he was more upset because his SSC hall ticket was also misplaced.
"I am worried that I will not get my marksheet without the hall ticket.
Moreover, it may get misused," he grumbled.
Another student lost his cellphone
and some cash, but he was most embarrassed, as he had to return home in a
towel. All his clothes were stolen. "When I approached the management I
realised that I was not the only one who was looted," he said.
Even those who managed to get a
locker were not safe. Shail Mehta, a student of Holy Paradise School,
Vasai, lost his bag, which was kept in the locker. "My friends and I had
taken a locker, but when we came back, our belongings were missing. The locker
was closed, but our bags were thrown on the floor, and the money was gone.
