Manipur gets its first gay married couple
Indo-Asian News Service, Friday March 26, 2010, Imphal
In the first same-sex marriage in Manipur, a 25-year-old 'groom' married his companion of six years, a 28-year-old man, at a private function on Thursday.

The two exchanged bouquets to solemnise the wedding in the presence of a modest gathering at a community hall in the heart of the city.

Sandip, the 'groom', and Nikhil, the 'bride' were in a relationship for the past six years and decided to wed.

The parents of the couple were opposed to the marriage. The wedding was attended by a number of homosexuals, well-wishers and friends.

Sandip said: "I am blessed to have Nikhil as my wife. We are indeed happy."

Nikhil is a beautician and runs a parlour, while Sandip supports her financially. Sandip was wearing a black suit for the ceremony, while Nikhil was wearing a white gown.

In a country where millions are starving to death its sad to see that the priorities that we have in life have nothing to do with whats right and good for the Society. It has all to do with me and myself and my feelings. If everyone thought in this manner, we will not only have chaos ravage our lives, we will have lost the purpose of living altogether. Even medical experts (science) do not approve of such a relationship. We have sold our minds to our individuality and have reduced individual rights to a matter of personal choice. Very soon we will also loose the ability to recognize who 'he' is and who 'she' is, thats when we will realize that there is a higher moral authority that defines how life should be lived. Lets not wait till we face the consequences of our action.
