Delhi girl commits suicide under pressure
Press Trust of India, Saturday February 13, 2010, New Delhi
An 18-year-old student of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Vikaspuri allegedly committed suicide on Friday after being constantly scolded by her parents for being weak in studies, police said.

The victim has been identified as Amita, a Class XII student. She allegedly hanged herself at her residence in Hastsaal at around 11 am.

The incident came to light when Amita's mother, who had gone to a nearby temple on the occasion of Mahashivaratri, returned home and found her hanging.

A suicide note was recovered from her possession in which she claimed that she took the extreme step on her own.

The father of the deceased is Raghunath Jha, a retired Indian Air Force officer.

Questioning of the parents by the police revealed that Amita was often rebuked by them for not being as good as her elder brother and sister in studies.

The victim's elder brother is an engineer in Chandigarh while her elder sister is doing an MBA course in Amritsar.

Though education is fine but not " essential " for a good living. Every parent should realise this.
