The Cycle Tour
By Sriram
After a sound night's sleep, it was time to wake up, time to ride my cycle again for yet another grueling day. This was just the beginning of a long journey which more than 50 of us are doing. It's been the case each year with riders coming from across the globe, some returning, like me. We had to ride for a few kilometers to reach the start of the day's first racing stage. The first stage was a challenging uphill which lasted for 14 km.

It was really a great experience to attend the summit. 3 billion of world's population was counting on me. It was not only me but it was United Nations Environment Programme which I was representing. Overall, it was a wonderful experience to speak in front of more than 100 world leaders.

I have been practicing for months for this big day. It's the first day of the grueling event for which I bought my bike. Today, its the flag off day of MTB Himachal 2009. There were more than 70 riders from different parts of India and the world, there were teams from the Army and Air Force. I was starting to feel jitters in my stomach to see that i am going to compete with professional class riders. This is the first competitive event I'm taking part in and i was just getting the idea about the level of the event.

Every car maker has finally understood, that to be counted in India, there must be at least one small car in its portfolio. This is because three fourths of the Indian car market is ruled by small cars - ranging from the basic Alto and 800 at one end, and the pricy and well equipped Jazz and i20 at the other.

I was recently invited to a protest rally by Manipur students and activists at Jantar Mantar- the capital's dharna street- against the alleged fake killings in the troubled state. The place was interspersed with a host of protesters from across the country, demanding their right 'within the basic framework of the Constitution'.

Swine is very dangerous, we don't know how people get it. Because of swine flu many people have to go to the hospital. Schools are shutting down because of swine flu. People, fathers and mothers are getting really scared. I didnt get scared. If you have swine flu don't go anywhere, just go to the hospital. When I got swine flu I felt very bad because I got headaches and stomach aches.

Reaching for the Skies

We all have dreams and, more often than not, these dreams remain just that. But for me, as an aviation enthusiast, my career as a journalist gave me a window to realise something I had always wanted -- to fly supersonic in the world's most advanced fighter jets.

At the Lifeline hospital one got a sense of the panic and fear among the parents and families many of whom were trying to find out from the media persons around if they could find out anything about the children. Some had rushed to the hospital unsure of where their children had been admitted.
Reality Bites

The school was engulfed in water. I drew closer and saw classrooms and the corridors were  a pool of water. The principal (a student pointed out to me) was sitting  in his small room with feet up on a pedestal floating in the water. I could see some of the teachers adjusting themselves on tables in the common room to avoid the water.
Freedom of Choice
By Maya Sharma
I have mixed feelings about the burkha, the veil, the sari that is drawn down to cover the face. On one hand, I believe a woman should have the right to wear whatever she feels comfortable in. On the other hand - how much real freedom of choice is there in a tradition that has been largely imposed on women from the outside - a mindset that places the responsibility of stopping men behaving badly with the woman - and the 'modesty' of her clothing.
