'Super 30' founder and mathematician Anand Kumar met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai to discuss ways of imparting quality education to students from poor sections of the state.
Anand Kumar told PTI that Mr Fadnavis was quite appreciative of the Super 30 initiative and expressed his desire for something on the same lines to help the needy students.
Mr Fadnavis told Mr Kumar at the meeting on Tuesday that the initiative is a great way of helping the poor join the mainstream and if he plans an expansion of Super 30 in Maharashtra, the government would extend all possible help in this regard.
Anand Kumar said the meeting was good and revolved around education. "I will see how I can help. I am always ready for the cause of poor, as talent is everywhere. It just needs to be tapped with the right opportunity," he added.
Patna-based 'Super 30' has groomed more than 300 students who have qualified for the coveted IITs ever since Mr Kumar launched the initiative in 2002.
Under the programme, 30 students from extremely poor families are trained free of cost to crack JEE to secure admission to IITs. The initiative had made its way to the list of 'Best of Asia - 2010', prepared by Time magazine of the US.
Newsweek Magazine had also taken note of the initiative and included his school in the list of four most innovative schools in the world.
