Mumbai: A stray bullet, reportedly from the Ghatkopar police firing range, hit a parked car shattering its back windshield in Powai suburb of Mumbai on Saturday.

The car, which was parked at a residential complex belongs to Anupam Hans, who has filed a complaint in this regard at the Powai police station. Anupam and his wife were on a house-hunting tour in the complex. When they returned to their car, they discovered that its back windshield was completely shattered. Upon enquiring with the security guard, they were told that incident of a similar kind has happened in the past too. The couple was shocked to find a bullet at the spot which was later taken away by the police.

Locals have told the police that stray bullets regularly land up in the residential complexes in the area. The firing range in Ghatkopar is meant for Mumbai police constables who regularly undertake shooting practice.

Rati Chaudhary, who was with her husband Anupam when the incident took place, tweeted:

Local police officials say such incidents have been reported in the past too. However, they were clueless as to how a bullet from the Ghatkopar firing range could travel all the way to Powai.

Senior police officers told NDTV, "We have been informed of the issue and an investigation is underway."

Meanwhile, Anupam and his wife Rati are seriously considering whether they should live in the area after the incident. The question on their minds is whether officials are waiting for an unfortunate incident to occur before they finally wake up to the reality.
