Mumbai: One person was killed and four sustained burn injuries as a boat caught fire 100 nautical miles from Mumbai coast, the police said on Wednesday.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when the five persons were sailing in a trawler.

"All of a sudden, their boat caught fire following which all sustained burn injuries. They were rescued and admitted in a hospital. One of them was declared dead," DCP Khalid Kaisar said.

The police said the boat could be a patrolling trawler belonging to ONGC which has an oil rig platform in the waters.

"We are verifying if the boat belongs to ONGC and whether they are the employees of this company," the DCP said.
