Mumbai:

A techie in Mumbai was assaulted allegedly in a case of road rage while his heavily-pregnant wife ducked the attackers, claims a police complaint. Sources confirm that the police case was filed only after the man wrote to Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, seeking his intervention.

The IT professional, who does not wish to be named, was taking his wife to a doctor's appointment earlier this week when a two-wheeler headed the wrong way nearly collided with his car. The man says he braked hard to avoid an accident. The man on the scooter then reportedly summoned friends for help on his cellphone.

Two men on a motorcycle then allegedly followed him and came close enough to his car to kick it repeatedly, according to the police complaint. The IT worker says he then pulled  over and the men on the two-wheeler - who were by now joined by the man on the scooter - reached into his car through an open window and punched him repeatedly in the face. They were unsuccessful in trying to grab the car keys.

"My wife was crying aloud asking for help and to save me to which even she was abused at and threatened to be punched. Finally, couple of passers by and an auto driver came to our rescue and helped us get away," he said.

The police confirms it has accessed security camera footage that should help identify the assaulters.

The police complaint says that the license plate of the motorcycle used by two of the three alleged attackers is MH 02 DE 986.
