Mumbai: About 24 hours after they made their first arrest in thebrutal gang-rape of a young photojournalist, the Mumbai Police arrested asecond man early today. More than 20 police teams, including 10 from the Crime Branch, are conducting searches to track down the three others.

The second accused, Vijay Jadhav, was arrested early this morning. He was reportedly hiding at his friends' video parlour near his residence in South Mumbai.

The police had yesterday arrested Chand Babu Sattat Shaikh alias Mohammed Abdul. The unemployed man, who lives in a slum cluster close to the Shakti Mills compound where the woman was raped, has named Jadhav and three others - Qasim Bengali, Saleem Ansari and Ashfaq -- as his accomplices, police said. Shaikh and Jadhav were sent to police custody till August 30 today. While the police say Chand is 19 years old, his family has claimed that he is a minor.

Of the five accused, three men - Chand Babu Sattat Shaikh, Qasim Bengali and Vijay Jadhav - have previously been booked and jailed for various criminal offences. They were however released on bail.

While Chand Babu Sattat Shaikh was booked in connection with cases related to robbery and assault, Qasim Bengali, who reportedly raped the woman twice, was accused of house breaking and dacoity. Vijay Jadhav, believed to be 19 years old, was booked for house breaking.

Police sources say mobile phone records of all the five accused show they were present at the scene of crime on Thursday evening.

The 22-year-old woman has reportedly told the police in her statement that she will get "some sense of justice" if all the accused are arrested. She is undergoing treatment at Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital. Doctors have said she is stable and "doing well." Her condition has reportedly improved since yesterday.
