Mumbai Civic Body Brings Down Number Of Permissions Needed To Start Business

The BMC grants permission to start these businesses, including restaurant, beer bar, lodge, permit room, confectionery among others.

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today said it has reduced the number of permissions required to start 38 different businesses, including restaurants, beer bars and permit rooms. The civic body said it has cut down on different permissions and approvals that were required to start these businesses from the earlier 72 to 51 as part of government's 'Ease of Doing Business' initiative.

The Public Health Department of BMC grants permission to start these businesses, including restaurant, beer bar, lodge, permit room, confectionery, eatery , fruit juice centre, laundry, bakery, sugar cane juice centre, milk shop, hair cutting saloon, sodawater plant, tea stall, paan shop, horse stables, flour mill.

A statement issued by the BMC said, "The Public Health Department gives approval to start these businesses. But the number of conditions that were earlier supposed to be fulfilled or NOCs required to be submitted, which have been brought down to 51 from 72."

"Earlier, in order to start any of these 38 businesses, the applicants needed to furnish NOCs of the Building & Factories Department as well as the Fire Brigade. But as per the new system, they will just have to provide the latter's NOC," it added.

Representatives of different business communities had sought simplification of procedures in this regard. "Considering their demands, several rounds of deliberations were held and finally Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta gave his approval to simplify the procedures," the statement added.

Now, all the information related to procedure for application and approval would be uploaded on www.mcgm.gov.in where applicants would be able to keep a track of their submission, it added.
