Man kidnaps his son to extort money from second wife

Mumbai: A man and his first wife were arrested from suburban Malvani for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of his three-year-old son for 58 days and trying to extort Rs five lakh from his second wife's family, police said on Tuesday.

The accused Naresh Ingale (30) and his first wife Nazia Shaikh were arrested on Tuesday and the boy Kalpak was rescued, police said.

According to police, Ingale, who was fed up with his second wife Swati for her ill-treatment towards him, had taken away Kalpak from their Santa Cruz residence on December 26 last year, before returning home saying that his son went missing.

Subsequently, an FIR was registered at the Santa Cruz police station.

Five days after the boy went missing, Ingale said that he had received an extortion call from one Yoshika Singh demanding Rs five lakh for the release of Kalpak.

"Ingale claimed that Singh was ready to take Rs two lakh initially. When investigators asked him to go to the place so that police could catch Singh red-handed, Ingale did not co-operate and used to cite some or the other reasons causing hurdles in the probe. This raised a doubt against Ingale," a crime branch official said.

When Ingale was grilled, he confessed to the crime and told police that his son was safe with his first wife Nazia Shaikh in Malad, police said adding that the boy was rescued.
